About the Exhibition
In Between the Lines invites visitors into the delicate and layered visual world of Mariëtte van Temmen, where line, movement and organic structures unfold in quiet dialogue.
Moving between drawing, painting and intuitive mapping, Mariëtte creates works that feel both intimate and expansive. Her visual language emerges through fluid gestures, transparent layers and fragile linear structures that evoke cellular systems, root networks and inner landscapes. Rather than depicting a fixed reality, her work suggests processes of becoming — subtle movements of growth, connection and transformation.
Throughout the exhibition, forms gradually emerge from silence. Shapes surface slowly, as if rising from memory or from a space just beyond language. Meaning does not reveal itself all at once, but unfolds through attentive looking and quiet observation. Beneath these visible structures, an undercurrent remains active. Hidden movements — traces of memory, tension and silent transformation — continue to shape what is seen. What appears still on the surface often carries invisible energy beneath it.
As the journey unfolds, boundaries begin to dissolve. Forms soften, edges loosen and distinctions between inside and outside gradually fade. Control gives way to openness, allowing vulnerability, stillness and spaciousness to enter the work. What ultimately remains is silence — not emptiness, but presence. A space in which movement settles and the eye can rest. In this silence, the works reveal their quiet strength and invite personal reflection.
In Between the Lines is an invitation to slow down, to look beyond the obvious and to experience the subtle relationships between form, space and perception. It is precisely in these spaces between line and silence that deeper meaning begins to emerge.

About the Artist
Mariëtte van Temmen creates works that move between drawing, painting and intuitive mapping, exploring the subtle relationships between structure, movement and organic growth.
Her visual language emerges through layering, fluid gestures and delicate linear structures. Organic forms unfold like cellular systems, root networks or inner landscapes, balancing fragility with resilience. Lines drift, gather and reconnect, revealing traces of processes that are both physical and emotional. Rather than depicting recognizable reality, her work evokes states of becoming: growth, connection, transformation and release. Each composition suggests movement beneath the visible surface, where tension and stillness coexist.
Her process is deeply intuitive and develops through a continuous dialogue between control and surrender. Marks are placed, interrupted, erased and rediscovered, allowing each work to evolve gradually and organically. Transparency, rhythm and spatial openness play an essential role in creating a sense of breath and quiet presence.
What remains is not a fixed image, but a living field of relationships — subtle traces of movement, memory and presence. In this space between line and silence, the work invites contemplation and opens room for personal interpretation.
